Point Reyes Lavender Co.: Growing Joy Through Lavender and Thoughtful Packaging

by Michele Molina October 27, 2026

For DeAnna Schaefer, self-care is about more than a product. It's about slowing down, listening to your body, and making space for a little more joy in everyday life.

After 26 years working as a physical therapist and raising three children, DeAnna felt called to create something that brought together her passion for holistic wellness, her family's agricultural roots, and her desire to help people feel better. That vision becamePoint Reyes Lavender Co., a family-owned lavender company founded in 2025 in Point Reyes Station, California.

Today, the company creates small-batch self-care products inspired by lavender, nature, and the simple rituals that encourage people to pause and reconnect with themselves.

And just like the products themselves, the company's packaging is designed with intention.

A New Chapter Rooted in Wellness

DeAnna's journey into lavender farming and product making came from a desire to bring more joy into people's lives.

After years of helping patients as a physical therapist, she understood how important it was for people to take time for themselves, especially when life felt overwhelming.

“Joy was my first mission, creating and sharing a joyful business,” DeAnna explains.

With support from her husband and family, she began building a business that combined her therapeutic background with a passion for lavender and self-care rituals.

For DeAnna, lavender offered a way to encourage people to slow down, reflect, and pay attention to what their bodies need.

That philosophy became the foundation of Point Reyes Lavender Co., where each product is created to make everyday moments of self-care feel a little more meaningful.

From Mountain Fields to Small-Batch Products

One of the things that makes Point Reyes Lavender Co. special is the care that goes into its process, starting long before a product is packaged.

The lavender is hand-planted along the contours of the mountain to take advantage of natural mountain spring water. The farm follows organic practices, and the lavender is cut and tied by hand.

From there, the process moves to the company's barn, where an all-female team, including a PhD chemist, creates and packages products in small batches.

The company's offerings include calming balm and lip balm, with its calming balm featuring a distinctive blend of natural herbs designed to support relaxation before rest.

Every step reflects the company's hands-on approach and its belief that wellness begins with thoughtful choices.

Packaging Inspired by Nature

Point Reyes Lavender Co.'s visual identity brings together the natural landscape, the brand's agricultural roots, and its focus on wellness.

Created by brand designerKate Saker, the branding features a modern logo and a color palette inspired by ocean mist, the earth, love and passion, and lavender rising.

Those colors help tell the story of the brand before customers even experience the products themselves.

The packaging needed to reflect that same personality while remaining practical for everyday use.

For the company, the goal was to find a design that felt bold and colorful without losing its connection to nature.

“We love that it is bold and colorful honoring our brand, eco-friendly, very functional, easy to pour,” DeAnna shares.

The result is packaging that feels aligned with the company's identity while making its self-care products easy to use.

A Paper Tube With a Purpose

Sustainability and functionality were both important considerations when Point Reyes Lavender Co. began exploring packaging options.

The team had previously worked with glass bottles, aluminum tins, soy-based dye inks, and recyclable boxes. But they wanted to simplify the packaging process, reduce unnecessary materials, and create something that worked well for both production and the customer.

Paper tube packaging offered a solution.

The tubes provide a convenient format for the company's balms, helping customers apply the products while keeping their hands clean. They also help streamline packaging by reducing the need for additional labeling and boxes. For a small business producing products in batches, simplifying those steps can make a meaningful difference.

The team was especially drawn to the opportunity to use more environmentally conscious packaging materials while maintaining the bold, colorful look that makes the brand recognizable.

For Point Reyes Lavender Co., packaging isn't just about how a product looks on a shelf. It's about making the experience easier, more intentional, and consistent with the company's values.

Choosing Joy, One Ritual at a Time

At the heart of Point Reyes Lavender Co. is a message that goes beyond lavender and skincare.

DeAnna believes that people need opportunities to pause, take care of themselves, and find joy in the middle of everyday life.

“The business grew out of a real need post-COVID world all hurting in various ways needing more JOY,” she says.

Years of working with patients and raising a family helped shape that perspective. DeAnna saw how easy it could be for people to put their own needs aside, and she wanted to create products that encouraged them to make time for themselves.

“I think that years treating patients and being a mom of three taught me that we all do need to take some time for ourselves, choose joy. It really is a choice.”

That belief carries through the entire brand, from the lavender grown on the farm to the small-batch products and the packaging customers bring into their homes.

Each product is an invitation to create a simple ritual, slow down, and reconnect with yourself.

Packaging That Connects With Customers

Finding packaging that matched the brand's vision was an important milestone for Point Reyes Lavender Co.

The team ultimately chose Paper Tube Co. because the tubes aligned with the company's aesthetic, sustainability goals, and practical needs.

And the response was encouraging from the beginning.

“We found the tubes really matched our brand and vision,” DeAnna shares. “Within the first week we sold through our initial test and there has been continued growth with our products.”

For a growing business, finding packaging that feels right for the brand while working well in practice is an important part of building a product customers connect with.

The tubes help bring together the company's colorful branding, convenient application, and commitment to reducing unnecessary packaging materials.

It's a reminder that packaging can do more than protect a product. It can help communicate what a brand stands for and create a memorable experience for the people who use it.

Growing Into the Future

Point Reyes Lavender Co. is still in its early stages, but DeAnna has an exciting vision for what's ahead.

The company hopes to continue expanding its online presence and reach more retailers, bringing its lavender-based self-care products to an even wider audience.

And one of her biggest goals? Having Point Reyes Lavender Co. featured inOprah's Favorite Things.

For DeAnna, the business represents the culmination of many chapters of her life: wife, mother, physical therapist, lavender farmer, and product maker.

Rather than leaving her previous experiences behind, she has brought them together to create something that reflects her values and the lessons she's learned along the way.

Her background in physical therapy informs her passion for wellness, while her experience as a mother reinforces the importance of making time for yourself, even in the busiest seasons of life.

A Little More Joy in Everyday Life

Point Reyes Lavender Co. is built around a simple but meaningful idea: everyone deserves a moment to slow down and care for themselves.

From hand-planted lavender and small-batch formulations to colorful, functional paper tube packaging, every part of the business reflects that mission.

The packaging helps bring the brand's personality to life while supporting its goal of simplifying materials and creating a more convenient customer experience.

For DeAnna and her family, the business is about more than growing lavender or making skincare products. It's about sharing something that encourages people to pause, breathe, and find a little more joy in their day.

And sometimes, that reminder can begin with something as simple as a lavender balm and a moment just for yourself.
