Chai Chai Love: A Ritual Rooted in Connection

by Michele Molina June 09, 2026

In a wellness market filled with instant solutions and quick fixes, Chai Chai Love is inviting people to slow down. Founded in 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the brand blends organic spices, functional mushrooms, and a touch of black tea into a modern take on a centuries-old tradition—one centered around nourishment, ritual, and connection.

For founder Gurumustuk Khalsa, the journey to launching Chai Chai Love wasn't part of a carefully mapped-out business plan. After spending more than three decades building and leading mission-driven organizations focused on education, community, and human connection, life took an unexpected turn during the pandemic.

As he stepped away from the work that had defined much of his career, he found himself returning to something familiar: chai.

Having attended boarding school in India and grown up in a community where chai was a daily ritual, Gurumustuk understood that chai was never just a beverage. It was a gathering place. A welcome. A moment to pause and reconnect.

While exploring functional mushrooms as part of his own wellness journey, he began incorporating them into his homemade chai. The combination felt natural, grounding, and deeply supportive. When others experienced it, the response was immediate.

There was clearly a gap in the market.

Most products labeled as chai had become overly sweet, syrupy, or far removed from traditional masala chai. Chai Chai Love was created to offer something different: an authentic, spice-forward mushroom chai designed to be simmered and savored.

Designed for Wellness, Not Convenience

At its core, Chai Chai Love is built around intention.

Unlike many products in the functional beverage space, it isn't a concentrate, an instant mix, or a sugary chai latte powder. Instead, it's a coarse-ground blend of certified organic spices and carefully measured functional mushroom extracts that deliver a warming, aromatic experience with low caffeine and customizable sweetness.

The goal isn't simply to replace coffee. It's to create a daily ritual that supports calm energy, mindfulness, and wellbeing without the crashes or jitters often associated with traditional caffeine-heavy beverages.

For Gurumustuk, the brand extends beyond what's inside the cup. Every detail is designed to encourage people to feel supported, connected, and encouraged throughout their day.

Each package includes uplifting messages and access to additional wellness resources, transforming a simple beverage into an experience rooted in care and community.

Packaging That Reflects the Mission

From the beginning, sustainability played a central role in the brand's packaging decisions.

Gurumustuk wanted a solution that aligned with the values behind the product itself—something environmentally responsible, practical, and beautiful. After evaluating various packaging options, he found that many alternatives fell short, either due to waste concerns or unclear end-of-life sustainability.

Paper tube packaging offered a different solution.

The curbside-recyclable tubes provide an eco-conscious alternative while delivering the premium feel that matches the quality of the ingredients inside. More importantly, they create an experience.

The moment a customer opens the tube, they're greeted by the aroma of fresh spices and a thoughtful message tucked inside. It's a small detail that reinforces the brand's larger purpose: helping people slow down, reconnect, and care for themselves.

The packaging is functional, durable, and visually striking on the counter, but it also feels like a gift—something customers can look forward to returning to each day.

Branding Inspired by Warmth and Community

The name Chai Chai Love itself reflects the playful spirit of the brand.

A lighthearted nod to the common phrase "chai tea," which literally translates to "tea tea," the name balances humor with sincerity. The branding was designed to feel welcoming, calming, and authentic while remaining practical and easy to navigate.

Working alongside Cindy Albanese Creative on branding and logos and collaborating with the Paper Tube Co. team on the packaging redesign, Chai Chai Love developed a visual identity that feels approachable, uplifting, and unmistakably personal.

Every element serves the same purpose: creating a sense of warmth and connection from the very first interaction.

Looking Ahead

While Chai Chai Love has already developed a loyal following in New Mexico, the future extends far beyond regional distribution.

The company is expanding its direct-to-consumer presence, making it easier for people across the country to discover a healthier and more authentic alternative to coffee and conventional wellness beverages. New chai formulations are already in development, with plans to continue innovating while staying true to the brand's core values.

But the long-term vision reaches beyond beverages.

Through local Chai & Chat gatherings, wellness initiatives, and community-focused programming, Gurumustuk hopes to build something larger—a company that prioritizes people over profit and creates meaningful opportunities for connection, encouragement, and personal growth.

A True Partnership

Behind every successful packaging project is a collaborative partnership.

For Chai Chai Love, working with The Paper Tube Co. felt like more than a supplier relationship. The team provided guidance, support, and expertise throughout the process, helping bring the brand's vision to life without compromising its values.

The result is packaging that feels every bit as intentional as the product itself—premium, sustainable, and designed to elevate the customer experience from the moment it's picked up.

For a brand built around slowing down and savoring the moment, that's exactly what great packaging should do.
