Texas Salt Co.: Reimagining the Cocktail Salt Experience

by Michele Molina September 02, 2026

What started as a homemade Christmas gift quickly turned into something much bigger for Daniel and Andrew Almand, the founders ofTexas Salt Co. Based in Bandera, Texas, the company began in 2021 after the couple made smoked salt as a Christmas gift for friends and family. The response was so positive that their small experiment grew into a full-fledged gourmet salt business.

Today, Texas Salt Co. creates specialty cocktail salts with a distinctly Texas twist. In fact, the company is one of the only businesses of its kind in Texas and one of fewer than ten companies across the United States specializing in what they do.

A Better Way to Rim Your Glass

For Texas Salt Co., the goal was never simply to create great-tasting cocktail salt. They wanted to rethink the entire experience of rimming a glass.

TheirCocktail Rimmer packaging was designed to make the process easier and cleaner by allowing customers to rim their glass directly from the container, eliminating the need for a separate dish or the mess of pouring salt onto a plate.

“We wanted packaging that was not plastic, and glass would have been too expensive and not practical,” Daniel and Andrew explained.

The team was already using paper tubes for their cocktail salts, making the Paper Tube Co. a natural fit when developing this new product.

Packaging That Does More

One of the biggest challenges Texas Salt Co. faced was finding custom packaging without having to purchase an overwhelming quantity all at once. Working with Paper Tube Co. helped make the project more accessible by allowing the company to break up payments and get the project moving.

But the packaging became more than just a practical solution—it became an important part of the product itself.

The team wanted the Cocktail Rimmer to feel interactive, unique, and connected to the flavors inside. They discovered that printing graphics on theinside of the tube added an unexpected benefit: it helped provide additional protection for the salt and contributed to a longer shelf life.

And, of course, it looked incredible.

Inside and Out

The Cocktail Rimmer designs were created entirely in-house, with the Texas Salt Co. team taking full ownership of the creative direction.

For each flavor, the packaging tells part of the story. A lemon graphic might appear on the outside of the tube, while opening the container reveals the inside of a lemon—including its seeds—printed on the interior.

One of the standout designs is theSotol Smoked Lime Salt. The inside of the tube features imagery inspired by the actual barrels used to smoke the salt, giving customers a visual connection to how the product is made.

The team also had the opportunity to collaborate with Desert Door Sotol, incorporating the brand's signature blue into the packaging. Although Desert Door has since closed its doors, the collaboration remains an important part of the product's story.

A Unique Product With a Texas Spirit

Texas Salt Co. stands out in an incredibly small niche. With fewer than ten companies across the country doing what they do, the company has carved out a unique place in the gourmet salt and cocktail industry.

Their approach is simple: create flavorful, high-quality salts while making the experience of using them more convenient and enjoyable.

The Cocktail Rimmer is a perfect example of that philosophy. It combines the salt, the container, the rimming process, and the visual experience into one product.

What's Next for Texas Salt Co.?

When asked where they see the business going in the future, Daniel and Andrew kept it short and sweet:

“To the moon.”

And considering the company started with a batch of homemade smoked salt given as a Christmas gift, there's no telling where their next big idea might take them.

Daniel and Andrew say they come up with “crazy ideas” every day, making the future of Texas Salt Co. just as exciting and creative as its beginnings.

A Packaging Partnership That Delivered

After exploring many packaging options from companies across the country, Texas Salt Co. ultimately chose Paper Tube Co. to bring their Cocktail Rimmer packaging to life.

The result? A packaging solution that is practical, sustainable, visually engaging, and completely unique to their product.

“[It] came out great, and [we're] so glad that Paper Tube worked with us on getting these together.”

For Texas Salt Co., the Cocktail Rimmer proves that great packaging doesn't just protect a product—it can become part of the experience.

And when customers can see the story of the salt bothinside and outside the tube, every cocktail gets a little more Texas flavor.
